Their aggression toward other dogs and humans had increased to what we felt like was a dangerous level We lovingly referred to our fur kids as our "walking. V didn't meet many dogs during his puppyhood and that definitely played a role in his future aggressiveness issues towards other dogs. Fast forwarding to age. And the Natural Balance frozen medallions. Also, thank you for helping me find the prefect fit for my family!! Here is the story of one of the lucky 14 cats who found their forever homes that day. Like people they all have different personalities and are special in their own way.
The first cats that I saw were Jewel, a beautiful long haired black female who was rescued with young kittens in June last year: Barney, a grey tabby with beautiful marks under his eyes and Cougar a light brown tabby cat.
Barney was around two years old; he had been living as a stray until he was captured in late February. I spent 30 minutes with Barney getting to know him. He seemed docile and cuddly, so I thought that we would make a good match. He seems to be very happy in his new home and has bought me a lot of pleasure. I have grown to love him in a very short space of time and I think that he loves me too. This story tells a tale of a successful adoption despite the odds. There are so many animals needing loving homes and people like me who would like a companion to care for.
The adoption centers in Washington provide a fabulous and selfless service and need support. Over 1, pounds of pet food was collected and donated to the 15 participating shelter and rescue organizations at the event. To our good friends at Denny's Pet World - Wow! Home in-time for the Holidays! December 13, Fifteen animal rescue groups came together on December 13th at the Paws-Abilities Total Dog Center to help over dogs receive the ultimate gift -- family!
Pawsitive Alliance is thrilled that about people came out to enjoy the holiday festivities and hopefully find their new furry family member. We are even more thrilled to announce 61 jolly dogs went home that day! A Canine Christmas Extravaganza! From Bellingham to Walla Walla, Everett to Spokane, Olympia to Yakima, Seattle to Tri-Cities — animal shelters in every part of the State opened their doors and asked local communities to come in and adopt a shelter pet.
The participating shelters put out the welcome mat with pet parades, raffles, obedience demonstrations, adoption promotions and many more fun activities. We adopted a new dog, Sadie, to add to our family in addition to our two dogs, Buddy and Sherman. The first couple of days were terrifying for me- Buddy and Sherman were NOT accepting of Sadie and acted terribly aggressive toward her.
I contacted Sherri right away and she came out to our house within hours of the call. Her calm, gentle approach made all the difference- within days, all three dogs were playing together and the aggression had subsided.
Sherri is extremely knowledgeable and left me with exercises, games and training techniques that I've been able to use with my dogs every day and I've seen behavioral improvements even in my year old Buddy within the first week! I will recommend Sherri to anyone and everyone in need of some "guidance" for their dog friends- I don't know what we would have done without her. Thanks again for a wonderful class!
Luna responded immediately to the training, and it was great to see my daughter learn a better way to interact with dogs. You also put me in touch with a bunch of new reading material about positive reinforcement, which I really appreciated! Thanks again for all your help and encouragement, and for all the great animal behavior discussions we had after classes. Tails of Success and Sherri helped save my dog. After a home visit because of a fight between our two dogs, Sherri reassured me that my dog did not have dog aggression issues, and through a series of "games" we were able to successfully reintroduce our dogs, who have been best friends again, ever since!
We also attended the "calm and control" class and learned even more techniques to help calm Blossom so that we were able to work with her, and to help her feel better in stressful situations. Blossom is so much easier to work with bc I am able to calm her down so quickly by using the class techniques, its like a different dog moved into our house. Everyday I am grateful for Tails of Success and Sherri because my whole way of thinking as far as dogs and dog behavior goes has changed due to the things I have learned from them!
I was having some aggression issues with my 4 year old male Pitbull mix. I had recently begun fostering puppies for a local rescue group, and he was not adjusting to the new living arrangements very well, which resulted in one of the foster puppies being bitten.
It wasn't a severe bite, but it was enough to get me concerned. I contacted Sherri and she came to my house to work with Doyle on a couple of occasions. She had me keep a journal of the incidents to better pinpoint what the triggers may be, as I couldn't see any reasons for his issues in the past. He would be fine one minute, and then nasty the next. By using the journal, I realized that he only went after the puppies when he was overly excited or anxious about something.
Sherri recommended that Doyle attend the Calm and Control Class to try and work on teaching him ways to relax himself in intense situations. I was nervous about him being in a class with other dogs, but LOVED that for the first few classes, there were barriers up so that he couldn't see any of the other dogs.
He has really learned that being relaxed is something that he is capable of, and while he still needs consistent work, Sherri has provided me with the tools to get him on the way to being a nice and calm dog! Thank you so much!!
My husband and I were first-time dog owners with a brand new puppy and we had no idea where to start when it came to training. I began researching positive dog training and found Tails of Success. Let me tell you, meeting Sherri and signing up for classes was the best decision we ever made! Of course we could tell you about how our pup is learning tons of important new skills and he is!
We went to class one night and asked Sherri for help. She had him laying down in short order — but more importantly, she walked us through how to shape his behavior step by step.
Well, my husband must have been listening, because later that week our pup could shake, speak, and roll over too! Sherri has helped make training fun and creative for both us and our pup. I found Lucy after a foster agency rescued her from being euthanized at the pound because of her aggression.
Lucy had difficultly getting used to her new environment and was diagnosed as having separation anxiety. She chewed our coffee table, the couch, my shoes, my cell phone, had accidents all over the house, you name it. We took her to the vet and his solution was Prozac. So, we got a different vet and enrolled Lucy in Obedience Class at Tails. She was so successful in her classes that it led to her being a more confident dog.
Everyone comments on how she is a "different dog" and cannot believe how much she has calmed down. Sherri, Darcy, and Amanda have saved me from pulling all of my hair out and given me positive solutions to every single behavior Lucy has displayed.
I chose Tails because they teach dogs a positive replacement behavior rather than ever even thinking about punishing the dog for it's problem behavior.
I've recently moved and I notice Lucy is anxious because of that, but she is currently enrolled in the Calm and Control class at Tails. I'm again, already noticing a difference!
We are also huge fans of the Thundershirt. It is funny to put it on Lucy because you can see her anxiety decrease almost instantly. Thank you for always being there for this puggle! She deserves a happy, anxiety-free life with her new family and we are getting there because of you.
We've been training with our dog Georgia for about 7 months now with Tails of Success. Sherri simply enrolled us in the next class and let us pick up where we left off Georgia was a different dog! Her confidence was improving and she was completely bonded to us. Of course, she was also willing and able to obey all the basic commands involved in the puppy class. But most importantly, training was fun!!!
Sherri is one of the most patient people I have ever met, and by far one of Georgia's favorite! She uses a gentle, calm, and patient approach - even with the toughest of students as always, the owners!
Since graduating Puppy Preschool, we enrolled in more classes with Georgia. We love teaching her tricks, and targeting has by far been the best "trick" she has learned. Through the flexible format classes we have been able to fit regular training into our busy lives. We look forward to class each week, and Georgia knows where we are as soon as we pull into the parking lot!
We recently adopted a senior dog, an Alaskan Husky who is quite shy and skittish. She also is not at all comfortable with car rides. So we had Sherri come out for a private training session which proved to be a great lesson for both the dog and her owner! Sherri gave good general advice and suggestions on training, dealing with shyness, name recognition and recall.
We also took a walk around the block which was worth the private session in itself, to learn how to better handle this dog who pulled hard and was also so skittish, in her current environment where she walks every day. The trick Sherri used of looping the lead over the dog's head and across her chest to help teach better walking was both clever and very productive!
Things are going well and we are very happy with the results of our private session. I am so glad that I found Sherri and her great assistants to help me learn how to train my dog. I appreciate their method- gentle handling and positively reinforcing good behaviors. Sherri is very knowledgeable in her field and I trust that she gives me well-informed answers to any questions I might have.
Sherri and her assistants are easy to approach and always willing to help and assist whenever possible. I can tell they sincerely care about my dog and her well-being and that they want to help me be the best owner I can be. Tails of Success has been great for me and my Shiba Inu!! I was very nervous about training her because of how "stubborn" this breed can be. But we have come a looong way after working with Sherri and Darcy! They have so many good tips and advice and I never felt intimidated asking questions or for help!
Thank you guys for all your help!! I have been recommending you guys to everyone I know! Tonight my parents came over for dinner, and Milo has always been scared of my dad, who has a full beard and mustache, ever since we've had him. Tonight, we didn't even say anything, and Milo walked right over to him as he came in the door, tail wagging, looking up at him, and let my dad pet him!
No barking, no running away, no nervousness! I don't know if it's the change in diet, the work we've been doing with your classes, or a combination of those plus things we don't even know, but it was incredible. It gives us such hope for Milo's self-esteem in being able to handle new situations! This is the kind of thing that you work for as a dog owner. I thought you'd be the best person to appreciate these milestones when he hits them. We're thrilled with the way he handled himself, and we appreciate so much everything you've shown us because we know now how to assess Milo's state, what we should do depending on how he feels, and where we can go from there.
He's finally getting to be a real dog and enjoy his doggie life with your help: Tails of Success has proven aptly named for us, as they turned our 9 month old rescue poodle-mix from a good find into a genuine treasure. They did this through their obedience training program on a flexible schedule that allowed us to move him along at his own pace to the point where we were satisfied with his proficiency level - a sensible and economical approach not found at other training programs.
Pinot loves to go to his classes both for the fun of play and for the pride of success. He has learned a number of new skills and polished some he'd learned earlier which make him a more playful and pleasant companion.
The clicker has become like a an increasingly more sophisticated remote control we can use to shape and influence his social skills. We recommend Tails of Success to friends with dogs every chance we get. Because of Sherri's consistent training techniques, I feel empowered to do more work on my own and I know that continuing the progress that has been made so far will allow Ella to be around other dogs for prolonged periods of time and not feel that she has to be in 'react and attack' mode.
Through Sherri, I learned how to polite-walk Ella, the importance of proper training and reward, and also how to break my own bad habit of reacting negatively or anxiously when Ella encounters other dogs. I'm so proud that Ella is breaking an old association everyday and building a new one. Sherri was friendly, accessable, and completely approachable. Even when I had concerns or questions about our lessons, she explained often, kindly re-explained to me the reasons behind doing what we were doing so that I was able to see the purpose behind the action.
I am definitely going to be working with Sherri in the future as Ella and I continue our training, and I have already recommended her to others who seek solutions for issues with their dogs.
Joey possessed very few obedience skills and some other bad habits that needed to be broken when we got him. Joey would nip on a somewhat aggressive fashion when playing, he was pulling on his leash, and he was getting up on the counters. Sherri immediately helped us address the issue of Joey's nipping. She instructed us on what to do and what not to do when he began the biting, and demonstrated with us how we should be working with him.
During the week after our first lesson, we could already see a significant difference in Joey's behavior by practicing the suggestions that Sherri had given to us. Joey was very responsive to her techniques which reinforced his positive behaviors. I have participated in obedience classes with my other dog in years past, and I do not feel that the instructor was as effective as Sherri was in teaching me how to teach my dog.
Sherri is a great dog trainer and works with Joey wonderfully, but she is also a great people trainer and has really helped us to learn and understand how to effectively train our dog. We got our first dog, a nine week old shepherd, last March and I don't know how we would have made it through the last year without Sherri and the Tails team! From potty training and puppy behavior to advanced obedience skills, Tails of Success has been an invaluable source of knowledge, support, and love for both our pup and ourselves as new owners.
Through the use of positive training, we learned to read our dog's body language and communicate effectively with him to teach him tricks and help redirect his energy and attention so that he is a happy and cherished member of our household. Bella wasn't ready for adoption when her owner found her, but her owner never gave up and the two now live happily ever after together.
For more happy dog park pictures, check out her album. This adorable little guy was rescued from a shelter. He needed some minor medical care, but is now doing great. Annabella was a neglected, underweight puppy when she was adopted. A few months later, she's on the road to a healthy life with loving owners who r eally love taking her picture. Polly is a deaf, year-old dog who has trouble with transitions.
Now, her owner happily reports she's doing great and loves to play. Bruno and his family are moving into a new house soon, which is great, because he's expected to be around pounds when he's done growing! Jasper was nervous before his adoption.
Ann's owner says she went from pauper to princess. The pup's mother wasn't taking care of her, but now that Ann is in a better home, her owner says she's tripled in size. Reddit helped connect this dog with his new home.
After seeing a video of the pup, his new owners tracked him down across the state to make sure Toby would end up in a loving home.
Visit our website for success stories & more. I was nervous about him being in a class with other dogs, but LOVED that for the first few classes, there were. She and our other dog, Bruce, could often be found snuggled up next to each other, Neither of us had ever been confident in the success of the dominance. I cannot imagine having another dog without Linda's training methods. I feel as though I went through training myself! Linda was patient and kind and I could.
